The Story Behind the Partnership between Operation Sand Flea and Johnathon Mullen Photography
Written by Johnathon Mullen
In June of 2011 I stepped on a pressure plate IED. The blast blew both of my legs off below the knee and my journey to recovery began. As a professional photographer and a person that didn't see a wheel chair as an option I decided to rely solely on prosthetic legs. I have had irritation and discomfort on my stumps since the day I began using prosthetics in January of 2012. I have never been able to find a solution for the redness, itchiness, and general rawness of my stumps. One day I had a discussion with my girlfriend Gemma about wanting to photograph for people selling products and she said she knew a local business owner that may be interested. (Sara Damelio of SKINCANDO) Sara and I met at my studio and she hired me to photograph her Combat-Ready and entire SKINCANDO line. Little did I know that she would have a solution for my stump irritation problems. Sara's Combat Ready Balm has allowed me to walk and continue working with next to no irritation to my stumps. I apply the balm to my stumps every morning before I put my prosthetics on and it simply keeps my stumps happy! I truly believe the Combat-Ready Balm can do the same for other wounded warriors like myself. Please help other warriors in need by clicking the image at the top! Sara and I will be distributing the Balm to warriors at Walter Reed. (*When donating specify it's for Walter Reed in the notes section).
